Business Process Management & Analysis
The discussion on the design of information systems has been dominated by a paradigm shift for many years now. For a long time, structure- and data-orientated analyses were emphasized. Currently, an increasing number of behaviour-orientated considerations are becoming prevalent – the business process has been established as the central design object for information systems. The focus “Business Process Management & Analysis” is the result of this trend. Our team is continuously integrating software systems for the documentation, analysis, reorganisation and execution of business processes into teaching and research. For this purpose, adequate IT infrastructures as well as application-orientated scenarios are being designed.
The emphasis is put on the semantic process management. We focus on methods and tools allowing better planning, control, and management of business processes through machine processing of knowledge structures. The enrichment of semi-formal, graphic business process models with an ontology-based, formally specified semantic is a good example. As a result, we have improvements in the interpretation of semi-formal process models by humans and machinery, and therefore progress in the field of search and correctness-check of process models.
Moreover, in the context of model management, we are active in the research of the systematic externalization and knowledge use in the field of connections and relations between models in a model stock. A special focus is the examination of solutions in administration, based upon wikis and the use of models and their connection to established modelling tools.
